Graduate minor in family social science
The science of helping families
The graduate minor in family social science offers a career-enhancing program of study in theory, research, and practice. You will use the insights and methods of the social sciences to examine how families work within various contexts and cultures.
Family Social Science master's and PhD program requirements
NOTE: All courses for the minor must be taken A-F and completed with a GPA of at least 3.0.
Students pursuing this minor must complete 6-7 credits from the following:
- FSoS 8001 - Conceptual Frameworks in the Family (3 credits)
- FSoS 8101 - Family Stress, Coping, and Adaptation (3 credits) or one of the following:
FSoS 8013 - Qualitative Family Research Methods (3 credits)
FSoS 5014/15 - Quantitative Family Research Methods I (4 credits and lab)
FSoS 8014 - Quantitative Family Research Methods II (3 credits)
Students pursuing this minor are required to complete at least 12 credits of family social science 8xxx courses, including:
- FSoS 8001 - Conceptual Frameworks in the Family (3 credits)
- FSoS 8101 - Family Stress, Coping, and Adaptation (3 credits)
- FSoS Research Methods course (one of the following):
FSoS 8013 - Qualitative Family Research Methods (3 credits)
FSoS 5014/15 - Quantitative Family Research Methods I and Lab (4 credits)
FSoS 8014 - Quantitative Family Research Methods II - FSoS Elective (3 credits)
