Ting Xu

Currently in my second year as a PhD student, I am pursuing my studies in the Family Social Science Department at the University of Minnesota. My academic journey commenced at Wuhan University, where I earned my BA in Social Welfare, complemented with a minor in Psychology. I further expanded my academic horizons by obtaining an MS in Social Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. Post-graduation, I delved into the practical world, taking on the role of a data manager at the Missouri Prevention Science Institute, associated with the University of Missouri. This role offered a unique blend of experiences, honing my skills before I embarked on my PhD journey. The core of my research revolves around the intersection of technology and family relationships. I am particularly captivated by understanding how technology influences the intricate dynamics of parent-adolescent relationships. One of my ongoing projects delves into media perception and its impact on adolescent preventive health behaviors. Another significant research endeavor focuses on the role of social capital in shaping children's academic competence. Outside the confines of academic research, I have a fervent passion for traveling, exploring diverse cultures and cuisines. Every destination and dish not only satiates my wanderlust and palate but also offers a broader perspective on the complexities and beauties of human connections.
