Three FSOS students named Wallin Building Strong Families Scholars

Three Department of Family Social Science students have been awarded Building Strong Families Scholarships from Wallin Education Partners in St. Paul. Sophea Om, Zareya Nolen, and Kianna Young were honored. Om and Nolen are pictured at the June 11 Wallin Education Partners Scholar Night at Nicollet Island Pavilion where they received their scholarships. 

Undergraduate students

Om is a McNair Scholar and is currently doing work in Cambodia with deportees. Nolen is double majoring in African American and African studies and recently studied at Dillard University in New Orleans as part of a national student exchange. Young took part in a national student exchange in Hawaii and was recently accepted into DirecTrack to Teaching to gain experience in teaching family and consumer sciences.

Wallin’s Building Strong Families Scholarships provide financial assistance and wraparound advising and career support to current college undergraduates who are studying family science, social work, or family studies and plan to work directly with children and families upon graduation.
