Weiler to deliver April 1 FSoS Research Colloquium

Lindsey Weiler, associate professor in Family Social Science, will deliver the address at the April 1 FSoS Research Colloquium. The event offers lunch and begins at 11:30 a.m. in 274 McNeal Hall on the University's St. Paul campus.

Weiler is the recipient of a 2025- 26 Horace T. Morse - University of Minnesota Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education and the winner of the 2024 Marty and Jack Rossmann Faculty Development Award.

She will discuss "Passing the Baton: Task Shifting as a Prevention Strategy in Youth Mental Health." Dr. Weiler's research focuses on developing and testing interventions for children and adolescents with the goal to identify effective strategies for fostering positive development and healthy functioning.

“To address the growing youth mental health crisis, we need models that reach beyond traditional clinical settings,” says Weiler. “Research shows that shifting some clinical tasks to trained non‑clinicians, such as teachers, mentors, and peers, can increase access to care and promote equity."

Weiler believes this approach reduces pressure on formal healthcare systems and offers a proactive alternative to clinic‑centered models. Her presentation will highlight examples from recent research and outline future directions for the field.
